Zachary Quinto and His Political Stand in Team Obama

Quinto and Obama biceps!
Here's another thing to add to my growing list of why I still have a thing for Zachary Quinto's Biceps: they pack quite a political punch.

It is a well-known fact in the ZQ-fandom that it's a Spockbama world.

From the time we saw his 2009 blog post with photos of when he met President Obama at a fundraiser, we were aware that Zach is a strong supporter of USA's 44th President.

And he got even more vocal when the last election campaign was underway.

Zachary Quinto Heading to Boston for "The Glass Menagerie"

It's obvious that Zachary Quinto loves the theatre.

After his successful run off-broadway at Signature Theatre's "Angels in America" last year, I am not surprised he is eager to get back on stage again.

When Zach met some fans at the recent Hollywood Short Film Festival, he mentioned in passing that he was going to be in Boston for a play in early 2013.

This time it would be "The Glass Menagerie" (written by Tennessee Williams) with the American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.) that also features Emmy Award-winner Cherry Jones ("24", "Awake"). Actor Fran Krantz ("Dollhouse", "Cabin In The Woods") also mentioned he had auditioned for the play with both Cherry and Zach, and I think he will also be in the production.

October Is The Time To Go Bonkers - Catch Season 2 of "American Horror Story"!

I'm usually not a big fan of the horror genre but two TV series eerily kidnapped a portion of my very precious time and gripped my soul in the last couple of years or so.

The first is AMC's gripping and heart-breaking TV version of Robert Kirkman's graphic novel series "The Walking Dead" (and to think that zombies are usually NOT my favourite kind of ghoulies).

The other is the fabulously warped "American Horror Story" (AHS) on the FX channel, by the creative duo of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. In terms of horror stories, I have to say, based on Season 1, AHS is in a class of its own. Its creeptastic moments and sometimes stylistic twists never quite lets up and the series even surpasses several lame movies of the same genre.

Unlike so many other returning TV series, Season 2 of AHS breaks continuity by being into a different timeline, different setting and premise but with familiar faces. Season 1 actors like the screengrabbing Jessica Lange (lerve her!!) and other cast members like the talented Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and the yummiest of all - Zachary Quinto, will be back on the show. They will all, however, be taking on entirely different characters.

If that's not actually warped idea by itself, what else is?

Miss Those Jack Coleman Biceps? Here's A Kickstarter Project!

"Heroes" fans will remember that sexy daddy HRG who was sometimes good and sometimes bad. All the while protecting his precious baby girl, cheerleader Claire Bennett.

If you don't know by now, the actor of Noah Bennett aka HRG is Jack Coleman, who has been seen recently in guest roles on various TV shows, like "The Vampire Diaries", "The Mentalist", "Criminal Minds" and "The Office".

Somehow, the characters he plays usually end up dead. :P

He is also set to join the "Castle" team in the new season and will be flexing his manly biceps as a senator who will be giving Detective Kate Beckett (played by the gorgeous Stana Katic) some annoying and probably serious problems.

But, here's another way to keep one of Jack Coleman characters more alive on our screens. He is involved in a sci-fi short film called "EMIT" by JS Mayank.

I've asked @dref22, an ardent fan of Jack Coleman, to give a short blurb on the Kickstarter project for "EMIT".

At Hollyshorts Film Festival 2012: Lorie "Sunfell" Makes It To LA!

Another ZQ admirer manages to meet Zachary Quinto in person recently.

This time it's Lorie "Sunfell", who managed to gather her courage and make it to the city of Los Angeles for the Hollyshorts Film Festival earlier this month.

I know she's been hoping to meet Zach for a long time, and I am glad she got her time with Zach. Especially since many of us have experienced memorable face-to-face contact with the tall, handsome and very gracious man!

Here's Lorie's account of her LA adventure:

-----------------

When Lindsay "SantaFeFan" Robinson proposed that I go to Hollyshorts Film Festival back in May, my first thought was 'No way'.

I have great difficulty with crowds and noise, and, while this was not a convention (which I used to love going to), it was still going to be tough to negotiate. But she twisted my arm, (I finally got it working properly last week), and I booked a flight. To say that I was nervous about the whole thing was an understatement. But I found some courage and determination, and went.

At Hollyshorts Film Festival 2012: A Zachary Quinto Encounter

It was exciting times earlier this month for Zachary Quinto, Before The Door and the team from PERIODS Films.

The quirky web-series "PERIODS", produced by Before the Door and created by Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci, had its official worldwide premiere at the Hollyshorts Film Festival 2012 on opening night, August 9th.

Many Zachary Quinto fans are already familiar with "PERIODS" and quite a few of them were able to make it to Los Angeles' Grauman's Chinese Theatre to celebrate the premiere with Zach and his friends!

(To get to know more about "PERIODS", Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci - click here for my interview with these two wonderful creative people!)

I wish I could have been there to enjoy all those creative biceps that night. Plus, I really miss the fangirly biceps of my friends - @eserei27, @HardlyanAngel and @syellefan88 - after leaving them post-Comic-Con just two weeks ago. *sniff*

But it was also nice to see/ hear of a bunch of familiar ZQ fans getting together for a fun night in Hollywood.

The first fan report that I have on that night's events is from Gloria. Here's her rundown of the Hollyshorts opening night!

Hollyshorts 2012 Get the PERIODS: Q&A with Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci

Re:Creation of the Apple Crunch in Paradise
If you haven't heard it by now, this year's 8th Annual Hollyshorts Film Festival will be blooming with the world premiere of PERIODS.

The film festival held at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre from 9 to 16 August will see a flush of indie short films called PERIODS which are created by Victor Quinaz, Anna Martemucci and produced by Before The Door Pictures.

The quirky and often-tripped-out comedy series will open for Hollyshorts with the premiere of a new PERIODS piece starring Penn Badgley. Even “White Collar”'s Mozzie, Willie Garson has got his PERIODS too. He made a royally sweet appearance in a recent release called “FOPS”. Check it out below:

No topic is taboo with the PERIODS team as they make irreverent prods on a gamut of subjects from pilgrims, USA's founding fathers and one onery Santa, to witches, Vikings, exorcism and a re-take on the creation story.

Which brought me to wonder --- what kind of fun, warped minds are behind the making of PERIODS? Well, here are New York-based duo Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci to tell us more about their impudent brainchild.

"Dog Eat Dog": Sian Heder About Directing Zach's Biceps and Furry Paws

It is always fulfilling to watch an indie film come to fruition.

After several months in the making, the short film by Sian Heder and Before the Door, “Dog Eat Dog” finally premiered on June 22 and 23 at the recent Los Angeles Film Festival (LAFF).

The project was generously funded by Zachary Quinto fans through Kickstarter last year.

Lindsay was one of the three fan producers of the film, and got to spend a day on location with Zach and director Sian Heder last December.

Therefore, she felt that she *had* to attend LAFF to catch the “Dog Eat Dog” premiere and see how the little film about pet adoption looked like on screen.

Before the movie was screened, however, she managed to catch hold of Sian and her lovely feminine biceps for a few questions:

Flex Those Biceps! It's Zachary Quinto's Birthday!

Cute plaid bday card from BrookHollow.com
Oh, joyous day!

Our favourite bb Zachary Quinto turns a very nommy 35 today!

"Star Trek 2" finished principal filming last month, and he celebrated the completion of the trademark Spock-like hair with cutting some off. I think.

But who actually bothers about Zach's hairstyle?? (Ok. Stupid question, I know).
As long as he still rocks those beautiful biceps, gracious sometimes goofy personality and wonderful acting chops! RIGHT?

So, break out all the glee and go for a digital worldwide celebration of Zach's birthday in your own style.

Go flex your biceps in his honour. Put on a plaid shirt and geeky glasses. Walk around menacingly pretending to slice someone's head out. Show off your Spock ears, or get a haircut with bangs. Wear a rubber latex suit.....

Whatever rocks your party mood.

Or you could just simply send him a birthday tweet or message on his official Facebook page or ZQC website! ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ZACH!

"Dog Eat Dog" Trots To A World Premiere at LA Film Festival

Just when I thought this was merely one of those short films that was produced on a whim, and will be available to a limited audience only, "Dog Eat Dog" proved me wrong by barking up a storm and making a dash to a World Premiere at this year's LA Film Festival.

The short film based on Zachary Quinto's dramatic and hilarious quest to adopt a dog from a pound (the current Noah, I presume...) is directed and written by his long-time friend Sian Heder

The film began humbly as a Kickstarter project in late 2011, with an active online drive to gather funds so that filming could begin.

Fans of Zach rallied around the project and "Dog Eat Dog" managed to get 307 backers and over USD 30,000 of funding. With that amount of funds, filming managed to kick off in LA early December 2011, with Zach acting in the main role together with Philip Baker Hall, Sharon Wilkins and a few four-footed actors.

That Night in Dublin - Unexpected Thrill for Star Trek Fans!

They beamed up to Hooters
Through a series of amusing tweets, Star Trek 2 actors, Simon Pegg and Zachary Quinto used their enterprising biceps to created quite a stir on the night of May 5.

I am not sure why they were particularly chatty about their adventures that night. We later learnt that Simon, Zach, Benedict and Chris were travelling to San Francisco together in a car.

Well, I know Simon's always chatty online but tweeting a partial timeline of events was not something Zach usually indulges in. It got even more hilarious when we found out that Zach was watching boxing with the guys at Hooters!

It could very well be that they were giving tons of bromancy support to their new friend and Trek co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, whose Series 2 of "Sherlock Holmes" was going to premiere for American audiences on PBS the next day.

Whatever the reasons may be, their social networking shenanigans captured a lot of their fans' attention!

And thanks to their tweets, my friends got to meet them in person!

Here's Cheryl's account of that exciting night:

Going Crazy for 2nd Season of "American Horror Story"

Just when you were thought you might be safe away from the Murder House of FX's stellar hit series "American Horror Story", here comes a second season of more bloody madness.

And I do mean that literally.

The series creators' Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk has just recently announced that Season 2 will be set in an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane, in its own timeline, but with familiar faces playing markedly different characters. Familiar faces like Jessica Lange (who was absolutely fabulous hamming it up as Constance Langdon in Season 1), Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and our favourite bb of snark, Zachary Quinto.

Before Season 2's premise was revealed, my friends and I had been wondering how the writers were going to do a credible follow-up after all that had transgressed in Season 1. Almost all of the characters were killed off systematically, one by one, leaving two of the most evil. With news that the next season's horrors will be taking place at a different locale brings up even more questions. Why all the same faces? Will the characters in Season 2 have something to do with the personalities in the previous season? Is there a primary evil driving the turn of events in both seasons?

Count me intrigued.

Star Trek 2 Set Pics: Who's Up For A Vulcan Nerve Pinch?

After the phenomenal success of the Star Trek reboot movie by JJ Abrams, Trek fans have been waiting a very looooong time for the next movie to begin filming. Finally, in January this year, production kicked off for the second "Star Trek" reboot film, with no changes to the primary cast.

JJ has been caught up with several high-profile projects in the past few years. The charming retro kids' adventure movie "Super 8", the Lost-like "Prisoner of the Week" new TV series "Alcatraz", moody time-crossing scifi TV show "Fringe" and the explosive spy franchise "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" are just some of them.

So much so, that the "Star Trek" movie was put on hold till he could have more time to focus on it. Especially since he's back at the directors' chair.

Singapore Press Loves "Margin Call"

Boy was I glad when indie financial thriller "Margin Call" made its way to Singapore on the last week of December 2011.

It was screening only at the Cathay Cineplexes and Shaw Theatres rather than at the splashier blockbuster-loving GV cinemas. But it did have a good number of show times and the movie is in fact, still currently screening at Cathay's Cineleisure Orchard.

I guess there are only a few hardcore Zachary Quinto fans around on this island. It seems that no one had put the local press stuff out on the internet yet.

An Oscar Nomination For "Margin Call"!

The nominations list for the 2012 Oscars have just been announced and...

W00t W00t!

Everyone...  flail your biceps round the house...

'Coz "Margin Call" has received a nomination for Writing (Original Screenplay)! The movie's director J.C. Chandor, is also the screenwriter for the indie movie produced by Before The Door.

This is such super-exciting news!

It is just the 2nd day of The Year of the Dragon and the mythical creature has already brought in good tidings!

Heartiest congratulations to Zachary Quinto and the fabulous Before The Door, J.C. Chandor and the team of actors, producers, crew members for "Margin Call". And it's marvellous that JC and BTD team receive an Oscar nomination for their first movie!

Will "Margin Call" actually walk away with an Oscar this year?

Together with the mass of ZQ fans, I certainly hope so!

"Dog Eat Dog" - A Producer's Report From The Set!

Late in the year of 2011, a little movie about dog adoption called “Dog Eat Dog” was made and directed by Zachary Quinto's good friend, Sian Heder together with the Before The Door team.

The production costs were funded by backers via the Kickstarter website and the top three people who contributed to the production costs will be credited as Producers for the movie. As a special perk, they were also allowed to be on set (in LA) for a day during the filming of “Dog Eat Dog

My Twitter friend Lindsay was one of the Producers, and it was no surprise that she had a wonderful day on set with Zach, Sian, the production team and a few furry-footed creatures.

Here's Lindsay's take on that day on the “Dog Eat Dog” set:

A SArmy's Fan Review - "Margin Call" Arrives in the UK!

After making its rounds in parts of Europe, Canada, the USA, Hong Kong and yes! even Singapore, "Margin Call" finally premiered in the UK last week.

The indie film about Wall Street's money-mongerers which has been making respectable critics and reviewers take notice, opened with a red-carpet event at the Vue Theatre, Leicester Square, London on 9th January 2012.

Lead actors Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons and Paul Bettany (looking rather hipsterish in blue-tinted geeky glasses and scarf) were present to grace the gala event.

Two of our SArmy members, Kirsty (from ZacharyQuinto UK) and Natalie, were lucky enough to attend the movie's premiere. And here is Natalie's review of the low-budget but beautifully-made movie.

Fans Look Back To Their Favourite 2011 Quinto Moments

It's the start of the New Year!

And with all the fireworks and celebrations, I am eager to see what else Zachary Quinto and Before The Door will have in store for us in 2012.

At the top of my personal list is Sian Heder's short film "Dog Eat Dog"! I can't wait to receive my DVD of the little movie, which I'm sure will be entertaining and funny at the same time!

Just before 2011 wrapped up, I asked ZQ fans to send me messages about their fave Quinto moments. I had intended to post them before the New Year arrived, but a host of evil digitalized nano-elves decided to chew up and crash my internet connection. So while I was surviving by the skin of my fingers, on my telco's 3G to stay connected, I was unable to write online and post blogs last week.

Hence, pardon ... for having a rather late, and a little retrospective post. But I can assure you, it's an enjoyable peek back at some wonderful Zachary Quinto fan memories!

2011: My List of Top 5 Quinto-fied Moments

2011 has been a year of many outstanding Quinto events!

Zachary Quinto kept himself suitably busy throughout the year, working his biceps in various mediums on stage, in TV and films, on the social networks as well as behind the scenes.

It has indeed been a stellar year for Zach and the Before The Door team as they embarked on some wonderful things that elevated their profiles in so many different ways.

Here is My Top 5 List of Quinto-fied Moments in 2011:

#1 - Sundance and "Margin Call"
In January, together with writer-director J.C. Chandor, Zach and the Before the Team took their first full-length movie "Margin Call" to the Sundance Film Festival. The crew of cast members like Oscar-winners Jeremy Irons, Kevin Spacey and A-listers Paul Bettany, Stanley Tucci and Demi Moore came along for the official worldwide premiere at the Eccles Theatre.
