LLAP, Leonard Nimoy (1931 - 2015)

Goodbyes are difficult. Especially so, when it is related to someone special and with such a far-reaching impact as Leonard Nimoy.

The actor best remembered as Mr. Spock in the "Star Trek" franchise, passed away in his home due to lung cancer.

Leonard Nimoy is no doubt a legend but he is, I think, most appreciated as a lovely human being and an inspiration to many.

I did not know Leonard Nimoy personally, of course. But I had the good fortune to have met him. Albeit only very briefly, for a few short minutes, at a Star Trek Convention held in Las Vegas in 2009.

I was not even a hardcore Star Trek fan to begin with, but Zachary Quinto was also there at the same convention and not being a U.S. resident, I did not know if I was ever able to get to chance to meet him again. That same sentiment carried over to Leonard Nimoy, who was already an elderly gentleman, and a widely celebrated iconic personality.

The Celebration Continues For Zachary Quinto's Birthday!

June 2nd was Zachary Quinto's birthday, and as the day went on, several fans posted birthday greetings to him on social media, including the ZQC forum on Facebook.

I hope he saw those greetings or at least browsed through a few.

Last Saturday, Zach was at Provincetown for the Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, and the ZQC managed to have an early mini celebration with him during the dinner. If you missed the details, click here for my earlier blog article.

Zachary Quinto (and His Biceps) Gets Birthday Wishes at Provincetown!

It's a rare occasion for fans to be able to celebrate their favourite actor's birthday together with him, but that's what a few ZQC members were able to do this past weekend at Provincetown.

Zachary Quinto's lovely biceps were guests-of-honor at the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival last Saturday (31 May). At the dinner, their owner Zach, looked very relaxed in a camouflaged tee and those adorable geeky glasses (*swoon*). He was accompanied by current beau, Miles.

As you may already know, Tennessee Williams is the playright for "The Glass Menagerie", and the writer spent four summers in Provincetown working on his pieces. Recently, Zach acted as Tom in the critically acclaimed production by American Repertory Theatre, which ran for a length of time on Broadway. Tom was a character Zach felt a great deal of affinity to, and that is one of the reasons why he accepted the invitation for last weekend's dinner.

If you want to read more information about Zach's visit to Provincetown, click this CapeCod Online article here.

"Agent 47" Shoot in Singapore: Project Hunting Zachary Quinto's Biceps - Part 2

We have now entered into the last few days of the "Agent 47" shoot in Singapore.

Project Hunting ZQ Biceps continues with fervour from local die-hard fans, and I really hope they manage to meet Zach in person at a suitable time and location before he heads back home. Because if you catch him at a right time, Zach is such an absolutely lovely man!

Before the shoot began, I did try (with the help of ZQC moderator Lindsay Robinson) to request for a little bit of time with Zach through his official channel - just for a small group of local ZQC-ers. However, the word was that the schedule for the "Agent 47" shoot here is a very intense one and there is a high security label on it. So, strictly no site visits were allowed. Also, Zach will hardly have time for semi-official fan-related matters as he has to complete his work before returning to NYC for another commitment.

The "Agent 47" filming is expected to wrap up on May 14 - which happens to be the same day our beloved X-Men folks are arriving. I had been wondering if any of them might turn up for the premiere as both movies are Fox movies. And then, in a local paper called TODAY, we were given heads up about Team "Agent 47" walking the Blue Carpet.

Sooo, will Zach's biceps be there? I hope so!

Anyhow, if you missed the excitement about the filming which has been happening here, check out my earlier blog post!

"Agent 47" Shoot in Singapore: Project Hunting Zachary Quinto's Biceps - Part 1

After filming in Berlin for some time, the shoot for upcoming 20th Century Fox movie "Agent 47" moved to the little island of Singapore earlier this month.

Prior to Zachary Quinto's arrival here, he was taking a short break touring Vietnam and Cambodia. We know this because of his Instagram feed, and of course, who can forget this particular pic of nekkid biceps relaxing in a pool. ;)

If you have missed all the excitement or news about Zach Quinto in town, here's a recap of what our bb's biceps have been up to while he was here.

Special Report: An Intimate Evening With Zachary Quinto And BD Wong

I know many of you have been waiting for the details on that special intimate "special invite" event that Zachary Quinto was attending at BD Wong's home recently.

Twitter pals Sara and Csilla were both lucky to be there with Zach who was feeling very relaxed with the small crowd that day.

I shan't say more and will let Sara tell you what happened that wonderful night.

-------------------------

Let's start by making this perfectly clear: I love Zachary Quinto.

The term "fangirl" might even apply (read: definitely does).  So when I read that Zachary Quinto was taking part in an "intimate Q&A style conversation" with BD Wong at Mr. Wong's home, my first question was "Where do I get tickets?"

A ZQC Fan At The Advance Screening of "Breakup At A Wedding" in NYC

Before the Door - an outfit founded by Zachary Quinto, Neal Dodson and Corey Moosa - is fast making a remarkable impact on the indie film scene.

With a high profile release of the Wall Street financial crisis drama "Margin Call" and the world premiere of "All Is Lost" (starring Robert Redford) at this year's Cannes, Before The Door has been heavily promoting a romcom made by their friends at PERIODS Films recently.

The movie called "Breakup At A Wedding" (a co-production with Anonymous Content) is literally about a breakup at a wedding, and its North American distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories ran a college tour for the movie, and advance screenings in the USA before it was released beginning June 18th across all cable VOD and digital platforms.

One such advance theatre screening was held at the AMC Loews Village 7 in New York on June 17, with a Q&A held after. Zachary Quinto was promoted to attend the event and a ZQC fan Davian Aw, who is currently doing an internship in New York, managed to get the chance to attend the special event.

Here is what happened that day:

Zachary Quinto's Biceps Blog Update: A New Look Unveiled!

Happy Sunday!

Welcome to the splashing, New Look of the Appreciating Zachary Quinto's Biceps Blog !

I have been searching for someone who had the passion to help design a new ZQBiceps blog header banner for me for some time. A couple of weeks ago, I was so stoked to have found someone who was willing to do one!

You may know him as Davian Aw, who have been posting quite regularly on ZQC recently.

Not only does Davian and I share the same fandom, we also originate from the same country! Pretty rare in the Zachary Quinto fandom world as statistics may tell you. Call it Quintoistic kismet. ;)

I love doing special ZQ Fan Focus from time to time. I covered Q&A's with one of Sylar's Army's (SArmy) founders Meaghan McBee, and another SArmy moderator, Natalie Wells, who also happens to be a very talented photographer. If you want to read about these fans, head to the bottom of this blog page for the links.

To make the launch of the blog's new look more personal, I've asked Davian to give us a little background of his work and feelings about the Zachary Quinto fandom.

Fans Braved Blizzard Nemo For "The Glass Menagerie" and Met Zachary Quinto!

When it was announced that Zachary Quinto was doing theater again, and performing "The Glass Menagerie" by American Repertory Theatre in Boston during the winter, fans from all over were terribly excited about the news.

Luckier ones were able to head to the city of Boston to watch the play while less luckier ones (like moi) just had to content with soaking in the ZQ flurry, digitally.

Although, if you had been one of those taking photos during curtain call, you would have been the subject of Zach's wrath.

Being a frequent theatre goer, it is a really rude thing to do, and despite his manner of tweet (I hardly found it insulting - because people who don't show others respect, don't deserve any in my books.), that tweet caused a furor from self-entitled people everywhere.

Ahhh... the internet. Where trolls love crawling out from the woodwork and into forums.

Anyway, on a happier note, a bunch of ZQC-ers managed to make it to the play despite that horrible blizzard that was swirling around the East Coast of USA in February.

Here's Lindsay's report on that fateful weekend:

Miss Those Jack Coleman Biceps? Here's A Kickstarter Project!

"Heroes" fans will remember that sexy daddy HRG who was sometimes good and sometimes bad. All the while protecting his precious baby girl, cheerleader Claire Bennett.

If you don't know by now, the actor of Noah Bennett aka HRG is Jack Coleman, who has been seen recently in guest roles on various TV shows, like "The Vampire Diaries", "The Mentalist", "Criminal Minds" and "The Office".

Somehow, the characters he plays usually end up dead. :P

He is also set to join the "Castle" team in the new season and will be flexing his manly biceps as a senator who will be giving Detective Kate Beckett (played by the gorgeous Stana Katic) some annoying and probably serious problems.

But, here's another way to keep one of Jack Coleman characters more alive on our screens. He is involved in a sci-fi short film called "EMIT" by JS Mayank.

I've asked @dref22, an ardent fan of Jack Coleman, to give a short blurb on the Kickstarter project for "EMIT".

At Hollyshorts Film Festival 2012: A Zachary Quinto Encounter

It was exciting times earlier this month for Zachary Quinto, Before The Door and the team from PERIODS Films.

The quirky web-series "PERIODS", produced by Before the Door and created by Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci, had its official worldwide premiere at the Hollyshorts Film Festival 2012 on opening night, August 9th.

Many Zachary Quinto fans are already familiar with "PERIODS" and quite a few of them were able to make it to Los Angeles' Grauman's Chinese Theatre to celebrate the premiere with Zach and his friends!

(To get to know more about "PERIODS", Victor Quinaz and Anna Martemucci - click here for my interview with these two wonderful creative people!)

I wish I could have been there to enjoy all those creative biceps that night. Plus, I really miss the fangirly biceps of my friends - @eserei27, @HardlyanAngel and @syellefan88 - after leaving them post-Comic-Con just two weeks ago. *sniff*

But it was also nice to see/ hear of a bunch of familiar ZQ fans getting together for a fun night in Hollywood.

The first fan report that I have on that night's events is from Gloria. Here's her rundown of the Hollyshorts opening night!

Flex Those Biceps! It's Zachary Quinto's Birthday!

Cute plaid bday card from BrookHollow.com
Oh, joyous day!

Our favourite bb Zachary Quinto turns a very nommy 35 today!

"Star Trek 2" finished principal filming last month, and he celebrated the completion of the trademark Spock-like hair with cutting some off. I think.

But who actually bothers about Zach's hairstyle?? (Ok. Stupid question, I know).
As long as he still rocks those beautiful biceps, gracious sometimes goofy personality and wonderful acting chops! RIGHT?

So, break out all the glee and go for a digital worldwide celebration of Zach's birthday in your own style.

Go flex your biceps in his honour. Put on a plaid shirt and geeky glasses. Walk around menacingly pretending to slice someone's head out. Show off your Spock ears, or get a haircut with bangs. Wear a rubber latex suit.....

Whatever rocks your party mood.

Or you could just simply send him a birthday tweet or message on his official Facebook page or ZQC website! ;)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ZACH!

"Dog Eat Dog" Trots To A World Premiere at LA Film Festival

Just when I thought this was merely one of those short films that was produced on a whim, and will be available to a limited audience only, "Dog Eat Dog" proved me wrong by barking up a storm and making a dash to a World Premiere at this year's LA Film Festival.

The short film based on Zachary Quinto's dramatic and hilarious quest to adopt a dog from a pound (the current Noah, I presume...) is directed and written by his long-time friend Sian Heder

The film began humbly as a Kickstarter project in late 2011, with an active online drive to gather funds so that filming could begin.

Fans of Zach rallied around the project and "Dog Eat Dog" managed to get 307 backers and over USD 30,000 of funding. With that amount of funds, filming managed to kick off in LA early December 2011, with Zach acting in the main role together with Philip Baker Hall, Sharon Wilkins and a few four-footed actors.

That Night in Dublin - Unexpected Thrill for Star Trek Fans!

They beamed up to Hooters
Through a series of amusing tweets, Star Trek 2 actors, Simon Pegg and Zachary Quinto used their enterprising biceps to created quite a stir on the night of May 5.

I am not sure why they were particularly chatty about their adventures that night. We later learnt that Simon, Zach, Benedict and Chris were travelling to San Francisco together in a car.

Well, I know Simon's always chatty online but tweeting a partial timeline of events was not something Zach usually indulges in. It got even more hilarious when we found out that Zach was watching boxing with the guys at Hooters!

It could very well be that they were giving tons of bromancy support to their new friend and Trek co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, whose Series 2 of "Sherlock Holmes" was going to premiere for American audiences on PBS the next day.

Whatever the reasons may be, their social networking shenanigans captured a lot of their fans' attention!

And thanks to their tweets, my friends got to meet them in person!

Here's Cheryl's account of that exciting night:

A SArmy's Fan Review - "Margin Call" Arrives in the UK!

After making its rounds in parts of Europe, Canada, the USA, Hong Kong and yes! even Singapore, "Margin Call" finally premiered in the UK last week.

The indie film about Wall Street's money-mongerers which has been making respectable critics and reviewers take notice, opened with a red-carpet event at the Vue Theatre, Leicester Square, London on 9th January 2012.

Lead actors Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons and Paul Bettany (looking rather hipsterish in blue-tinted geeky glasses and scarf) were present to grace the gala event.

Two of our SArmy members, Kirsty (from ZacharyQuinto UK) and Natalie, were lucky enough to attend the movie's premiere. And here is Natalie's review of the low-budget but beautifully-made movie.

Fans Look Back To Their Favourite 2011 Quinto Moments

It's the start of the New Year!

And with all the fireworks and celebrations, I am eager to see what else Zachary Quinto and Before The Door will have in store for us in 2012.

At the top of my personal list is Sian Heder's short film "Dog Eat Dog"! I can't wait to receive my DVD of the little movie, which I'm sure will be entertaining and funny at the same time!

Just before 2011 wrapped up, I asked ZQ fans to send me messages about their fave Quinto moments. I had intended to post them before the New Year arrived, but a host of evil digitalized nano-elves decided to chew up and crash my internet connection. So while I was surviving by the skin of my fingers, on my telco's 3G to stay connected, I was unable to write online and post blogs last week.

Hence, pardon ... for having a rather late, and a little retrospective post. But I can assure you, it's an enjoyable peek back at some wonderful Zachary Quinto fan memories!

"Margin Call" - Review by a ZQC Member

As "Margin Call" gathers momentum, there has been some talk about Oscar nominations.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but from the rave reviews I've read from some heavy press and top critics, I hope it does head toward that direction.

For those in LA and NY, there are some events coming up with the director and producers of the movie this Saturday!

On 29 October, in LA, our favourite bb Zachary Quinto (hopefully wearing a beanie??) and Before The Door partner and one of the movie's producer Neal Dodson, will appear for a special post-show Q&A at the 7 pm screening at the Century City AMC. Do hurry and buy your tickets now before they sell out!

Over at the East Coast, in NY, writer/ director of  "Margin Call" J.C. Chandor will be stopping by the Angelika for a Q&A after the 5 pm show.

If anyone is attending these events, drop me a note! I'm sure many other fans would like to hear how these sessions went!

And to add on to @HardlyanAngel's thoughts of the movie, here's another "Margin Call" review from a ZQC member, @Sunfell!

"Margin Call" - A SArmy Fan's Review

For an indie film, "Margin Call", the Before The Door-produced and J.C. Chandor-directed Wall Street thriller with an impressive ensemble cast, has been getting a lot of attention since it opened at theatres on just 56 screens in some key USA cities this week!

The movie was also available On Demand, thereby, increasing its reach to even more interested viewers across the country.

Several publications and websites have given the movie a big thumbs-up, with as many movie-goers and fans acknowledging that it is a rather involving and relevant film of the times.

My favourite movie ratings website, Rotten Tomatoes, has awarded it a commendable 87% rating.

Sylar's Painting Is In Ohio!

Remember those "Heroes" auctions which were up on eBay??

Well, my Twitter friend @eserei27 is a die-hard "Heroes" fan and was a fervent bidder for the Sylar painting. Yep, the one of Kirby Plaza that our favourite dark villain drew at Isaac's apartment.

Here's a short blurb from the happy fan who now has that awesome "Heroes" prop in her living room!

Margin Call To Go Sundance-ing

As you all might already know (.. well, unless you have been living thousands of feet underground in caves with some grumpy dwarves.... ), "Margin Call", the first movie produced by production company Before The Door, and directed by newcomer J.C .Chandor, is one of the films showing at the Sundance Festival 2011.

This is super exciting news for those who have been stalking ... er.. following Zachary Quinto's endeavours post-"Heroes" and BTD's list of projects.
